‘His mercy is more’

On Sunday, the congregations at all three of our main campus venues sang the modern hymn His Mercy is More. The refrain goes:

Stronger than darkness, new every morn
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

Written by Matt Papa and Matt Boswell, the hymn draws from a 1767 letter and sermon by John Newton. Here’s an excerpt from that letter:

But let not all you feel discourage you. For if our Physician is almighty, our disease cannot be desperate and if He casts none out that come to Him, why should you fear?
Our sins are many, but His mercies are more: our sins are great, but His righteousness is greater: we are weak, but He is power.

True to his letter, Newton’s sins were many. Read More

Starting Point

Whether this is your first time checking out First Free Rockford and you just want more info, or you’ve been attending for a while and want to move from spectator to participant, Starting Point is for you. In the three Starting Point classes you’ll learn about who we are, what we do, and what we believe. You’ll discover our history in the Rockford community, and learn about the people who oversee our current ministries. Each class will go progressively deeper into who we are and how you can get involved. If you decide to join us as a church member Week 3 will cover all the required information you will need to join. The environment is casual, and lunch will be served at each class. Childcare is also available. If childcare would be helpful for you, just request it in the registration form. Please register at least one week in advance so we can be sure to have a lunch ready for you. We look forward to seeing you at the next Starting Point.
