Courageous Chimps Room: 2 to 2-1/2 year olds

Welcome to Courageous Chimps!

Head Teacher: Katie Brooks
Assistant Teachers: Debbie Nelson & Ruth Solie

As teachers, we were curious who God would place on our class list this past fall. Then we could not wait to meet each child and put a face with a name. What beautiful faces they were and are. These faces, along with their hugs and smiles, are what make the Chimp room so special. God is so amazing in the way He orchestrates His plan. I could not imagine hand picking a better group of children.

Special Days
Beginning in January, we will be celebrating Special Days in the Chimps room.

What is a Special Day?

It is a day to celebrate, as a class, how special God made your Chimp. Special Days, when possible, were scheduled around your child’s actual birthday. The Special Day Chimp will wear a crown for the day and be sung to. Our special song is:

Zippity dooh dah, zippity ay,
my oh my what a wonderful day,
plenty of sunshine comin' your way
(you way!)
zippity dooh dah,

HAPPY SPECIAL DAY!!

Special Day Treats:
You are welcome to bring a treat to share. It can be something they eat in class or take home. The choice is yours. It is not required.

  • February – Jesus’ Miracles, God’s Love for Us, Jesus & the Children, Zacchaeus and the Good Shepherd

  • March - Jesus’ Death and Resurrection (Why we celebrate Easter)

  • April – Jesus’ Ascension, Spring Fling, Armor of God

  • May – Armor of God, Jesus is the Light of the World, Review

What to bring each day?

IMPORTANT – Please make sure to label all of your child’s items (including diapers and cups). A permanent, black Sharpie marker works best. You’ll need to periodically check your items to ensure the labeling has not worn off.

  • Backpack / School Bag

  • Change of clothes (including socks and underwear) in large Ziploc bag (to be kept in backpack at all times)

  • Change of clothes

  • 2 diapers/pull-ups (as appropriate for your child)

  • Lunch  box filled with easy-to-eat food and drink:  Please not send messy food items like pudding, fruit cups not drained, yogurt, and applesauce. These items do not do well with 16 little ones all eating at the same time. J

When you arrive:

Upon arrival, please place the backpack with the extra clothing in your child’s cubby outside the classroom. Bring to the counter your child’s sippy cup, lunch box, and 2 diapers/pull-ups (as appropriate for your child).

Potty-Training Note:

At this age, most children will be potty-training at some level.  Please keep us informed of your child’s “potty progress” so that we can be consistent with what he or she is doing at home.

Dress your child in “potty-friendly” clothing. Make sure you include the extra clothing in your child’s backpack each day. Wet/soiled clothing will be returned in the provided Ziploc bag at the end of each day.
