UPDATE 4/23/2009:
Sue Klock, First Free's Publications
Coordinator, spoke with Jeff Honson, Matt's Dad today and Matt is doing
remarkably well. He just had a "titanium mesh" partial skull put in to
fill in his skull that was missing from the impact of the fall. He is
walking, talking, and is in rehab – the doctors continue to be amazed at
his miracle story. Matt, and his wife Nora, both will be working at a camp
in Minnesota this summer.
Finances are still very much needed, so if
you are still willing to give, please do so using the donation information
below at Alpine Bank. Jeff also mentioned that anyone can go to:
www.caringbridges.com for updates as well. A couple of Minnesota TV
and radio stations have also been covering this story as well — visit
www.WCCO.com and
www.KARE11.com for
more updates.
BACKGROUND:
On January 21, Matt Honson, son of Pastor
Jeff Honson of Northridge Community Church in Machesney Park, fell more
than 20 feet while hiking through the mountains in China. He suffered a
broken neck and multiple head injuries.
Matt needed to be airlifted to Hong Kong
for surgery—the cost of that Medivac flight was in excess of $75,000. It
is undetermined at this point how much the surgeries will cost.
Matt, and his wife Nora, are teachers at a
Chinese University teaching conversational English.
